Communications Coordinator

General Context

CST - India is looking for a highly motivated and innovative person to help develop and implement CST - India communication strategy.

The Communications Coordinator will work closely with the CST India and EMBARQ's Information and Innovation teams in the development and implementation of a comprehensive communications strategy, the rolling out of key communications products, helping to raise visibility of CST - India and the EMBARQ Network in India; putting sustainable urban transport on the agenda of national, state and local decision makers, raising awareness on sustainable mobility in India to influence user behavior, and attracting funding to help CST - India scale up and meet the increasing demands for sustainable transportation in Indian cities.

Responsibilities

  • Work with CST India and the EMBARQ Information and Innovation Team to initiate, plan, and implement the CST - India's communication strategy
  • Work closely with and coordinate between the EMBARQ Information and Innovation Team and local Indian partners and public relations consultants to communicate India outcomes globally and locally
  • Develop and maintain print (brochures, media kits, etc.) and online (websites, wikis, blogs, etc.) communication and outreach tools
  • Assist in the management of partner relationships relating to implementation of the communications strategy
  • Help cultivate and manage relationships with Indian journalists
  • Assist in the writing of press releases, website content, newsletter, and other publicity materials
  • Assist with day-to-day project management tasks, such as project reports, proposals, and coordinating team meetings.
  • Help organize events and press conferences
  • Write for the CST India website, India TheCityFix.com blog, and the EMBARQ Network newsletter

Qualifications

  • Interest in and knowledge of climate change, environment, sustainable transportation, and urban planning
  • Demonstrated track record in communications, marketing, and/or journalism
  • Understanding of CST - India’s target audiences
  • Excellent writing skills (in English and Hindi)
  • Knowledge and strong interest of trends in online web services and social media
  • Experience with wikis, photo-sharing, web-video and blogs
  • Ability to learn new software and systems quickly
  • Attention to detail and high level of organization
  • Proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, HTML, Photoshop, and Illustrator
  • Knowledge or experience with online tools such as del.icio.us, flickr.com, and content management systems such as WordPress and Drupal
  • Ability to self-motivate, stay organized, and work both independently and as part of a team

About CST - India:

CST - India is currently providing technical support for implementation of Bus Rapid Transit Systems to Indore, under a partnership with Indore City Transport Service Limited, and Pune, under a partnership with Urban Mass Transport Company (a GOI and ILFS company). CST - India is also promoting non-motorized transport activities in Bangalore in partnership with Bangalore Metropolitan Land Transport Authority, City Connect Foundation and Interface for Cycling Expertise. In addition, CST - India collaborates with Ministry of Urban Development in their efforts for capacity building for sustainable urban transport in India. CST - India is working towards scaling up its activities to become the leading organization in the connection between transport, environment and development for Indian cities.
