Recognizing that auto-rickshaws form a key part of the urban transportation system in Indian cities, CST-India has received a grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies to develop a business/restructuring plan to bring about reforms in the auto-rickshaw sector in India. The key objectives of this project include

• defining the role of auto-rickshaws in key Indian cities;
• assessing issues/problems in the sector,
• documenting past reforms,
• evaluating potential reform options for the future, and
• developing a restructuring plan for the auto-rickshaw sector that can be implemented for a target city in India.

The expected timeline for the development of the business/restructuring plan is December 2010.
